About Fresno California
Fresno is a city in the state of California that also serves as the county seat of the Fresno County. This city spans around 112 miles square miles, and is situated in the middle of the San Joaquin Valley. Fresno was named after the numerous ash trees, which are to be found on the shores of the San Joaquin River. This Californian city was first established in the late 19th century as a railroad station of the Central Pacific Railroad. Over the years, Fresno has emerged as the economic center of the Fresno County and the whole Joaquin Valley region of California. The City of Fresno is in close proximity to the geographical center of the state of California. It lies around 220 miles from Los Angeles, 170 miles from Sacramento and 185 miles from San Francisco.
The very first European to arrive in the San Joaquin Valley area was Pedro Fages who did this in the year 1772. The County of Fresno was established shortly after the California Gold Rush in 1872 when the Central Pacific Railroad founded a station in close proximity to Easterby for its South Pacific line. Very shortly after, a store was built, and the railroad station eventually became the town of Fresno Station. Many residents from the then county seat of Millerton were lured into the area thanks to the convenience of the railroad. Fresno was incorporated as a city in 1885. 2 years after the Fresno Station was established, the Fresno County residents voted to relocate the county seat from Millerton to Fresno.
